Spooky Surrey; Brooklands (Weybridge)

By Rosie - October 31, 2020

Brooklands in Weybridge is an old racing car track and aerodrome. It opened in 1907 and hosted it last race in 1939. If you've ever watched Downtown Abbey, you'll remember Lady Mary's second husband, Henry Talbot was a racing car driver who raced at Brooklands- so if you ever want to get a feel for the place watch one the episode where he races at Brooklands.

Brooklands is now an aviation and motoring museum, which is well worth a visit if you are ever in the Weybridge area.

But Brooklands has a spooky side....

Strange things happen at Brooklands, from doors opening and closing with no one around to hearing engine screeches at 2am, many believe it is haunted.

Who haunts Brooklands?

Percy Lambert, a racing car driver, the first person to achieve 100mph (which he achieved at Brooklands) was unfortunately killed on the 31st October (of all days!) in 1913 in a crash at Brooklands. This happened just two weeks before he was due to get married and give up racing altogether. Staff believe he is behind the strange goings on and weird noises at Brooklands. Maybe like a friendly resident ghost?

A creepier story is reported by a young boy, who said he saw a man staggering around the race track with his head hanging off, the boy was so shocked he had to receive medical treatment... maybe he was another driver who perished in a crash at Brooklands race course?

Apparently ghosts of service personnel are often seen as Brooklands was used as a WW2 RAF base.

So definitely one of the most haunted museums in the country!

So have you ever been to Brooklands? If so did you get a spooky vibe?
